Chicken Inn has been drawn against Absa Premiership giants, Sundowns in their first 2016 CAF Champions League tie. The Zimbabwe Champions will host Sundowns for the first leg encounter, while they will travel to South Africa for the second leg.
Chicken Inn will host the Absa Premiership in the first leg of their preliminary round fixture, before Sundowns play the second leg at home.
Chicken Inn qualified for Africa’s biggest continental club tournament by virtue of winning the 2014/15 Zimbabwe Premiership Soccer League title, while Dynamos secured the second spot after FC Platinum succumbed to draws and defeats in the final stages of the tournament.
Chicken Inn are in the competition for the first time, while the Brazilians have been in the tournament for several occasions, Chicken Inn will be eager to prove their local championship credentials while on the other hand Sundowns will want to put past disappointments behind them and make it into the group stage this year.
The first round of CAF fixtures in 2016 will take place on the 12th to 14th of February, with the CCL group stage qualifiers being decided after three rounds by the end of April.
The 2016 CAF Champions League (officially the 2016 Orange CAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons) will be the 52nd edition of Africa’s premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the 20th edition under the current CAF Champions League format.
