The FIFPro Division Africa Southern Region members met from the 16th of February 2017 in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe for their second scheduled meeting after the first one which was held in Botswana in 2015. The President of the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe, Mr Maringwa, presided over this meeting which constituted four nations which are Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The meeting covered three days’ work and was split into major topic areas which included the regional Out of Contract Tournament, MDAS, the position paper and areas affecting members as a region. Important governance and professionalism matters were also tackled. This meeting presented an opportunity for the representatives from the four nations to pick each other’s brain regarding issues which affect the region, sharing best practices, challenges and insightful approaches.
The group had so much enthusiasm and a positive spirit which helped make the time both productive and worthwhile. The meeting emphasised the importance of working together to ensure that the region achieves its main mandate of advocating for the rights of players.
After productive and exhaustive discussions the group had a well-deserved break and got a chance to explore the Victoria Falls - The Smoke that Thunders, and also an opportunity of exploring the Zambezi River on a boat Cruise as a team. This relaxing and team building exercise gave the participants ample time to bond. Know each other better and relax
